INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cake yeast or 4 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 c. warm water
  • 1 1/2 c. warm milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 1 c. nut meats
  • 2 c. candied fruit
  • 8 c. flour or more

DIRECTIONS:

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt, shortening and
  • eggs. Beat in flour. Add raisins, nuts, and candied fruit. Let
  • rise until double. Punch down. Let rise again. Shape into round
  • loaves and let rise until light. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
  • Frost with a glaze. Decorate with cherries, whole nuts or colored
  • sugar. Makes 5 large or 6 small loaves.
